| Descrizione del dritto | Bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing right, modelled in high relief by Percy Metcalfe, whose initials P.M. appear below the truncation. The portrait presents the King in a restrained, modernist style characteristic of Metcalfe's work for the proposed 1936 coinage. A beaded inner border frames the design, and the peripheral Latin legend reads continuously around the circumference. The date MCMXXXVI appears in Roman numerals at the lower right of the legend. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | At centre, a large St. Edward's Crown rendered in fine detail, surmounted by a cross pattee and orb, set against a plain field. Flanking and encircling the crown is a wreath composed of the four national floral emblems of the United Kingdom: the Tudor rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the shamrock of Ireland, and the leek of Wales, all rendered with botanical precision. The date 1936 is inscribed in Arabic numerals above the crown within the wreath. The word TRIAL appears in small lettering to the left of the crown base. The peripheral legend, separated by lozenge-shaped stops, reads around the outer border, with EDW. VIII at the base. |
