| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing right, modelled in high relief by Percy Metcalfe, whose initials P.M. appear below the truncation. The portrait presents the King in a restrained, modernist style characteristic of Metcalfe's work for the proposed 1936 coinage. A beaded inner border frames the design, and the peripheral Latin legend reads continuously around the circumference. The date MCMXXXVI appears in Roman numerals at the lower right of the legend. |
