The bare-headed portrait is rendered in a restrained, modernist style consistent with proposed coinage designs of 1936. The peripheral legend encircles the bust within a beaded border. |

| Reverse description | A large imperial crown occupies the central field, depicted in high relief with elaborate fleur-de-lis and jewelled band detail, set against a horizontally hatched background. The crown is encircled by a continuous wreath composed of national floral emblems — Tudor rose, Scottish thistle, Irish shamrock, and Welsh leek — tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The date 1936 appears in two digits to either side of the crown above the wreath, and the word TRIAL is inscribed vertically to the left of the crown within the wreath. The abbreviated legends FID. DEF. IND. IMP. appear in the upper arc of the outer legend, with EDW. VIII. in the lower arc, all separated by lozenge stops, within a beaded border. |
