| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing right, modelled in low relief after the uncrowned portrait designed by Percy Metcalfe for the projected 1936 coinage. The king's features are rendered with restrained classical detailing. The surrounding legend reads EDWARDVS VIII D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: MCMXXXVI P.M., disposed in a continuous arc around the periphery of the field. The coin is struck with medal alignment and bordered by a reeded rim. |

| Reverse description | A large Imperial State Crown rendered in fine relief occupies the centre of the field, its arches surmounted by a cross pattée and jewelled band depicted in intricate detail. The date 1936 appears above the crown, flanked on either side by the numerals within the composition. Encircling the crown is a decorative wreath composed of Tudor roses, Scottish thistles, and shamrocks, tied at the base with a ribbon, evoking the floral emblems of the United Kingdom. The peripheral legend, separated by raised dots, reads FID · DEF · IND · IMP · 1936 TRIAL · EDW. VIII ·, with the word TRIAL also inscribed in small letters at the lower left of the inner field. The whole is contained within a finely reeded rim. |
