| Obverse description | Uncrowned, bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing left, rendered in high relief with finely modelled facial features. The obverse legend arcs around the periphery reading EDWARDVS VIII DEI : GRA : BRITT : OMN : REX, separated by dot stops, within a milled border. The royal cypher E VIII R appears in the lower field beneath the truncation of the bust. The portrait style is consistent with the proposed but never issued coinage designs of 1937, as Edward VIII abdicated before any circulating coinage bearing his likeness was released. |
