Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before any circulating coinage bearing his effigy entered production, leaving a complete gap in the official British series. Struck pieces from his reign are genuine patterns and proofs authorized by the Royal Mint; what emerged afterward, across decades, was a cottage industry of "fantasy" issues produced by private mints capitalizing on collector appetite for the reign-that-wasn't. This piece, struck in 2000 and catalogued by Giordano, belongs firmly in that latter category — no official standing, no Royal Mint involvement.
