| Obverse description | Highly stylized and degenerated representation of the goddess Kali, rendered in the debased fanam tradition of the Malabar Coast. The central device features a schematic anthropomorphic figure with a stepped or tiered headdress above, and a horizontal band of raised pellets arranged in a row across the lower field, evoking the highly abstracted iconographic conventions of South Indian fanam coinage. Flanking elements suggest remnants of arms or attendant motifs, reduced over successive generations of die-cutting to near-abstract form. |
