The Sharqi sultans of Jaunpur represent one of the more tenacious of the post-Tughluq successor states — controlling a substantial stretch of the Gangetic plain for over a century after Delhi's fragmentation following Timur's 1398 sack. Nasir al-Din Mahmud Shah ruled during a period of sustained military friction with the Lodi sultans of Delhi, a rivalry that would eventually destroy the dynasty entirely under his successors.
Jaunpur copper falus from this reign are poorly documented in Western collections, with GG attribution remaining the primary reference point for most dealers.
