Nasir al-Din Mahmud Shah ruled Jaunpur at the dynasty's cultural and political peak — the Sharqi sultans of this period maintained a studied independence from the Delhi Sultanate, and their coinage reflects an administrative confidence rare among successor states. Jaunpur's copper falus circulated primarily through local markets along the middle Ganga plain, largely insulated from the disruptions that plagued coinage further west.
