| Obverse description | Central device consisting of four raised oval pellets arranged in a cruciform or quatrefoil pattern, their points meeting at the centre of the broadly flat field. The design is boldly struck in relief against a plain, slightly concave field. The irregular flan edge, characteristic of hammered coinage, is visible around the periphery. No legend or inscription accompanies the motif, the four ovals serving as the sole decorative and identifying element of this face. |
