Obverse description Central field occupied by a large, ornate Arabic legend in bold naskh script, arranged in a floral cartouche of lobed and scrolling form. The inscription, giving the AH date 1241, is rendered in high relief against the flat copper field. The cartouche is framed by a border of raised beads encircling the full diameter of the flan. The overall die-work is characteristic of provincial Iranian hammered coinage, with vigorous but loosely executed calligraphy typical of the Qajar period.
