| 背面描述 | Octagonal copper flan with a three-line Arabic legend set within a double linear border following the outline of the octagonal shape. The legend reads 'عام ثلاتة عشر وتسعمائة' (Year 913 AH), written in Maghribi script and serving as the dating inscription for this Wattasid issue. The surface displays characteristic green cuprous patina and flat strike areas typical of hammered coinage of the period. |

The Wattasids ruled Morocco as regents under the Marinids before seizing the sultanate outright in 1472. Abu Abd Allah Muhammad al-Burtuqali — "the Portuguese" — earned his epithet not through origin but through his campaigns against Portuguese coastal encroachments, including prolonged conflict over Asilah and the Atlantic littoral. His reign coincided with sustained pressure from Iberian expansion following the fall of Granada in 1492, which pushed substantial numbers of Andalusian refugees into the Maghreb and complicated Wattasid finances considerably.
Copper falus of this period circulated at the lowest transactional level, largely invisible to formal treasury records.
