Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in horizontal registers, conveying the Islamic profession of faith (shahada). The legend is framed by a prominent inner dotted border encircling the field, with a further marginal inscription band running along the periphery of the flan. The die-work is typical of eastern Abbasid-era provincial copper coinage, with angular, somewhat roughly executed Kufic lettering. The flan is irregular and shows characteristic hammered fabric with areas of copper corrosion.
