| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic religious inscription arranged in horizontal lines within a plain inner circle. The field displays the Shahada and the name of the governor Abu Abd Allah in bold Kufic script. A marginal legend encircles the central device, recording the mint name al-Shash, the hijri date, and the name of Tahir; the legend is separated from the central field by a raised linear border. The flan is irregular and shows a notable chip at the upper edge, consistent with typical hammered copper coinage of the 3rd century AH. The surfaces exhibit an olive-brown patina with traces of green cuprite corrosion. |
