Obverse description Irregular hammered copper flan bearing a three-line Arabic inscription in the field, reading 'Sulayman bin al-Hasan, may he be happy.' The legends are rendered in a bold, angular Kufic-influenced script arranged horizontally across the coin's face. A small ornamental device, possibly a star or rosette, appears at the centre between the lines of text. The inscription is contained within a plain inner circle, itself set within the outer rim of the flan. The surfaces display characteristic green patination consistent with prolonged burial, with slight strike irregularities typical of hammered coinage of the Kilwa Sultanate.
