| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic epigraphic legend in Kufic script, reading 'Mahmud bin Zanki', identifying the ruler as Nur al-Din Mahmud, son of Imad al-Din Zengi, founder of the Zengid dynasty. The inscription is disposed across the field in characteristic Zengid hammered style, with bold, angular letterforms in raised relief. A dotted or beaded border encircles the legend, following the irregular periphery of the flan. The reverse surface shares the same olive-green and dark patina as the obverse, with localized areas of cuprite and encrustations consistent with prolonged burial or circulation. |
