| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bears a multi-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in three horizontal registers, proclaiming the Islamic profession of faith (shahada). The legend is enclosed within a prominent inner beaded border, itself surrounded by an outer beaded marginal ring. The flat, irregular flan and bold, angular Kufic script are characteristic of early Samanid copper coinage from the Transoxiana region. |

Nasr I ruled as the Samanid governor of Transoxiana under Abbasid suzerainty, and al-Shash — modern Tashkent — was one of the easternmost mints operating under his authority. Copper fulus of this period are chronically underrepresented in scholarship; numismatic attention to the Samanids has concentrated heavily on their silver dirhams, leaving the copper coinage poorly catalogued and often misattributed. The Zeno reference here is one of the few reliable anchors for this type.
