Obverse description Central field bears a three-line Kufic Arabic inscription enclosed within a linear circle. The inscription contains the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) or a related religious formula. A marginal legend in Arabic script runs around the inner border, separated from the central device by a plain linear ring. The flan is irregular and slightly rough, consistent with hammered copper coinage of the Tahirid period.
