Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan inherited the Ilkhanate throne at age twelve following the death of Öljaitü, ruling until 1335 when he died without a male heir — an event that fractured the dynasty irreparably. His reign saw the last serious attempt to hold the Ilkhanate together as a coherent political unit, with copper fals issues circulating in local bazaar economies largely ignored by the silver and gold coinage reserved for taxation and long-distance trade. The Zeno catalog entry for this type reflects how thinly documented base-metal Ilkhanid issues remain; most survived only because they were too low-value to melt.
