Additional information

Hulagu Khan's westward campaign culminated in the sack of Baghdad in 1258 and the execution of the last Abbasid caliph, yet in Anatolia his political relationships were considerably more transactional. The joint citation of Hulagu alongside Kaykaus II of the Rum Seljuks on this fals reflects a brief and uneasy accommodation — Kaykaus had initially resisted Mongol authority before submitting, and the coin's dual naming was less an honor than a public ledger of subordination.

Kaykaus II was eventually forced to flee to Byzantine territory around 1262, which brackets the circulation window for this type fairly tightly.
