Reverse description The reverse displays a stylized bust or head motif at the center, likely a vestigial derivation from pre-Islamic Sasanian or local ruler imagery, encircled by a linear inner border. A marginal Arabic Kufic legend runs around the outer field, consistent with Abbasid provincial fals types issued at Zaranj. The portrait is rendered in a highly abstract and debased manner, reflecting the gradual transformation of figural types under Islamic coinage conventions. The flan shows irregular striking with areas of weak relief, typical of hand-hammered copper production. The reverse treatment is characteristic of transitional coinage from the Sistan region during the Abbasid period.
