| Opis awersu | Aniconic field bearing a three-line Arabic religious inscription arranged horizontally across the centre of the flan, reading 'Bismillah / Duriba bi- / Qinnasrin' (In the name of God / struck at / Qinnasrin), identifying the mint of issue. The legends are rendered in an early Kufic script with bold, angular strokes characteristic of Umayyad provincial coinage. A small bird or animal figure appears to the right of the central inscription field, a decorative element common on early Islamic copper issues of the Syrian mint series. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat ovoid flan with a slightly uneven surface, displaying an olive-brown patina with traces of green oxidation consistent with prolonged burial. |
