| Obverse description | Epigraphic type presenting the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) in three lines of Kufic Arabic script across the central field, reading 'There is no god but God alone, He has no associate.' The script is boldly struck in raised relief against a plain, unadorned field. No figural imagery is present, consistent with the aniconic reform coinage introduced under Caliph Abd al-Malik. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, characteristic of hammered copper issues of the period. The flat, open field surrounding the inscription shows natural surface porosity and patination typical of base-metal Umayyad coinage. |
