| Obverse description | The obverse presents a multi-line Kufic Arabic religious inscription arranged in horizontal bands across the central field, contained within a plain inner circle. A raised pellet border forms a dotted annulus encircling the inscription, a convention characteristic of Abbasid provincial copper coinage. The script exhibits the relatively angular, simplified Kufic letterforms consistent with peripheral mint production rather than metropolitan calligraphic standards. The flan is irregular in outline and slightly convex, reflecting the hand-struck hammered technique employed at provincial mints. The overall execution is typical of the epigraphic coinage tradition of the Transoxianan region during the Abbasid period. |
