Obverse description Central field bears a two-line Arabic inscription in bold Mamluk Naskh script, reading the mint and ruler name, framed above and below by horizontal ruled lines. The legend is contained within a rectangular cartouche occupying the majority of the flan. A single word or partial legend appears above the cartouche in the upper field. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat trapezoidal flan typical of Mamluk copper coinage of this period.
