Al-Salih Isma'il's reign was bracketed by fratricidal violence — he came to power after the death of his brother al-Nasir Ahmad and was himself deposed and killed in 1345, giving this Halab mint issue a production window of roughly three years. Aleppo's mint was active but secondary to Cairo during Mamluk copper production, and provincial fals from this period circulated hard in local markets, which accounts for the near-universal wear seen on survivors.
