Obverse description Within a square frame bordered by dotted lines, the opening portion of the regal title of Sultan al-Nasir Yusuf is inscribed in Arabic. Four segments of the mint name and date, written out in full Arabic words, are arranged in the four marginal areas between the square and an enclosing circle. A beaded border (grenetis) runs along the outermost edge of the design.

Reverse description Within a square frame bordered by dotted lines, the name and title of the Abbasid caliph al-Musta'sim Billah are inscribed in Arabic in the central field. The concluding portion of the title of al-Nasir Yusuf — including the epithet Salah al-Din, his given name Yusuf, and his patronymic ibn Muhammad — is distributed across four segments in the intervening space between the square and a surrounding circle, forming a continuous marginal legend.
