Additional information

Al-Manṣūr ʿAlī II was elevated to the sultanate as a child of roughly seven years, a pawn in the factional struggles between Mamluk amirs following the death of his father al-Ashraf Shaʿbān. His first reign lasted only until 1381, when he was deposed — and later killed — by Barquq, the amir who would go on to found the Burji dynasty and end Bahri rule entirely. Copper fals issues from al-Qahira during child sultanates tend to reflect amirid rather than sultanic authority in practice.
