| Reverse description | Central field contains a two-line Arabic religious inscription enclosed within a roughly incuse circle. The legend reads 'yathiqu bi-l-Samad' (trusts in the Eternal God), a pious formula invoking one of the names of Allah found in Quranic tradition. The script is informal and somewhat compressed to fit the small flan, consistent with the crude hammered production typical of Kilwa copper fulus. The surrounding field is plain, with no additional border or ornamental devices visible. The flan edges are irregular and show characteristic clipping and surface porosity. |
