| Obverse description | Central field bears the sultan's name in two lines of Arabic script, enclosed within a roughly incuse circle. The legend reads 'al-Husain bin Ahmad', identifying the issuing ruler. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the periphery, characteristic of the hand-struck copper coinage of the Kilwa Sultanate. The script is crudely rendered, reflecting the limited engraving resources available at the East African coastal mint. No additional decorative elements or border ornaments are present. |
