Obverse description Arabic Kufic inscription contained within an incuse square occupying the central field. The legend reads in three lines identifying the issuing authority of Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, governor of Iraq under the Umayyad Caliphate. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with the incuse square forming the dominant design element. The style is characteristic of early Islamic transitional coinage produced under Al-Hajjaj's administration between 694 and 714 CE.
