| 正面描述 | A Gallic rooster (coq gaulois) stands erect in the centre of the field, head raised and beak open as if crowing, with wings spread wide in a dynamic, heraldic pose. The bird is rendered with fine feather detail throughout the body, wings, and tail plumage, conveying a vigorous artistic style characteristic of the concours design by Rousseau. The engraver's monogram appears at the base of the design near the rooster's feet. The circular legend REPVBLIQVE FRANÇAISE runs along the periphery, interrupted at the lower field by the bird's stance. |

In 1961, the Monnaie de Paris solicited competing designs for France's new decimal coinage ahead of the franc redenomination. Rousseau's submission for the 20 centimes was one of several concours pieces struck in small quantities purely for evaluation — never intended for circulation, never formally adopted. Most concours essais from this competition exist in runs of fewer than a hundred pieces, sometimes far less.
