Obverse description Facing enthroned figure of King Henry IV, crowned and robed, seated upon a Gothic throne with armrests, holding the royal regalia; flanking the throne are heraldic shields bearing the quartered arms of Castile and León, with lions passant at the base of the composition. The king's frontal effigy is rendered in the Gothic hammered style characteristic of mid-15th century Castilian gold coinage. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the royal legend running continuously around the periphery in Gothic Latin lettering.
