Reverse description Quartered royal arms of Castile and Leon within a plain cross, displaying alternating castles (for Castile) and rampant lions (for Leon) in the four quarters, consistent with the heraldic tradition of fifteenth-century Castilian gold coinage. The central cross divides the shield into four equal fields, each bearing a boldly rendered charge in high relief. A beaded inner circle surrounds the shield, and the peripheral Latin legend ALFONSVS REX DEI GRACIA RE (Alfonso, King by the Grace of God, King...) runs between two beaded borders, asserting the pretender's royal claim.
