Electrum Stater

The Eburones were the Belgic tribe Julius Caesar accused of instigating the ambush at Aduatuca in 54 BC, in which roughly fifteen cohorts under Quintus Titurius Sabinus were annihilated — one of Rome's worst defeats of the entire Gallic campaign. Caesar's retribution was systematic and total: he spent much of 53 BC destroying Eburones settlements and ordered neighboring tribes to plunder their lands freely. The tribe effectively ceased to exist as a political entity by 51 BC, making this stater a product of a culture Rome deliberately erased.

The DT 635–637 variant designation reflects meaningful die differences within the type, not merely catalog housekeeping.
