| Beschrijving voorzijde | The Virgin Mary (Theotokos) depicted full-length, facing, standing upon a short dais, nimbate with a cruciform nimbus, her arms raised and extended outward in the orant posture. She is clad in maphorion and robes rendered with fine linear drapery folds characteristic of Komnenian artistic style. The Greek legend ΘKE ΡOHΘEI and the Marian monogram MP-ΘV appear in the field flanking the figure, invoking the Mother of God. The design is framed by a beaded border following the concave scyphate flan. |
