Obverse description Youthful draped bust of Louis XV facing right, his hair arranged in elaborate curled locks falling to the shoulder, engraved in the early Baroque court style by Norbert Roettiers. The portrait conveys the king's childhood appearance, as he was barely five years old at the time of issue. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, separated from the effigy by a plain field. The rim is bordered by a continuous beaded or toothed inner circle. The overall composition is characteristic of late Louis XIV transitional coinage, maintaining the regal formality established under the preceding reign.
