| Obverse description | Draped and cuirassed bust of Louis XIV facing right, armored in the antique style. The king is portrayed with long flowing hair. The legend, beginning at approximately the 7 o'clock position, reads LVD•XIIII•D•G FR•ET•NAV•REX in Latin characters. The portrait reflects the mature, imperious likeness of the Sun King as rendered by engraver Joseph Roëttiers in a classicizing idiom. |

| Reverse description | Crowned round shield bearing the arms of France (three fleurs-de-lis), superimposed in saltire over the hand of justice and the royal scepter. The date appears within the legend, and the mint mark differentiating the issuing workshop is placed in the exergue beneath the shield. The Latin motto encircles the composition as the primary reverse legend. |
