Obverse description A floriated cross with fleur-de-lis terminals occupies the full field, with a central quadrilobe ornament (quatre-feuille) at the intersection. The arms of the cross are decorated with lily-shaped finials, giving the design an elaborate Gothic character typical of early Bourbon coinage. The circular legend surrounds the cross and includes the regnal date. The entire composition is struck on a broad, slightly irregular flan consistent with hammered production.
