| Obverse description | Large laureate and draped bust of Louis XVI facing left, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style engraved by Jean-Pierre Droz, whose signature 'J.P. DROZ. F.' appears below the truncation. The effigy displays the king's characteristic features with elaborately curled and dressed hair adorned with a laurel wreath. The circular legend reads 'LUD. XVI. D. G. FR. ET NAV. REX.' and is bordered on the inner edge by a continuous listel of small fleurs-de-lis, with a fine toothed border at the rim. |
