| Reverse description | A cross fleurdelisée with a central rosette occupies the full reverse field, its four arms terminating in stylized fleur-de-lis. The quarters formed by the cross are alternately cantoned with a dolphin and a crowned letter F, serving as royal devices of Francis I. The surrounding legend, in Latin, bears the Christus vincit acclamation in abbreviated form. The composition is bold and symmetrical, consistent with the established iconographic program of the French royal gold coinage of the early sixteenth century. |
