| Opis awersu | Central device consists of the royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis (three fleurs-de-lis arranged two over one in the French post-1376 manner) — surmounted by a large ornate crown with elaborate floral and trefoil finials. The shield is set within an inner circle with a beaded border. The surrounding legend in Gothic lettering reads KAROLVS X DEI X GRACIA X FRANCORVM X REX, separated by cross stops, running clockwise between two concentric beaded circles. The flan is characteristically irregular in shape, as typical of hammered medieval coinage. |
