| 表面の説明 | Central field features a stylised rampant Dutch lion rendered in a decorative, curvilinear art style, holding a bundle of arrows in its left forepaw — emblematic of the Dutch coat of arms. The legend KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN curves along the upper periphery in Latin script, with the date 1999 positioned to the lower left of the lion. The denomination ECU appears in the lower field, flanked on either side by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars referencing the European Community. The overall design is executed in a bold, modern graphic style against a smooth field. |

The 1999 Dutch ECU series occupies an odd historical position: these pieces were struck just as the euro replaced the ECU as the unit of European account, making them commemoratives for a currency that had already ceased to exist in any functional sense. The ECU was never circulating coinage for the Netherlands or any other member state — it existed as a basket currency for interbank settlement — so these copper-nickel issues were always purely medallic in nature, a fact reflected in the X# catalog designation rather than a standard KM number.
The "Ruimtevaart" theme references the European space program during a period when ESA was expanding Dutch participation significantly.
