Obverse description Bare-headed and bandeau-coiffed effigy of Louis XV facing right, his hair elaborately dressed in flowing curls tied with a ribbon, the truncation sharply cut below the neck. The portrait, engraved by Joseph Charles Roettier, exhibits the refined baroque style characteristic of mid-18th-century French royal coinage. The circular Latin legend reads LUD·XV·D·G·FR·ET NAV·REX· around the periphery, separated from the portrait by a raised inner ring.
