Obverse description Front-facing bust of Jonathan Swift (1667–1745), Anglo-Irish satirist and clergyman, depicted wearing a full curled wig and clerical bands, in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The legend JONATHAN appears along the left rim and SWIFT along the right rim.

Reverse description A large ornate Celtic harp dominates the centre of the field, encircled by twelve five-pointed stars arranged around the periphery, evoking the European Community motif. The denomination legend ECU appears in large stylised letters beneath the harp, with the date 1994 and the fineness mark 585 inscribed in the lower exergue.
