The ten-ducat piece — a multiple struck for presentation rather than commerce — belongs to a class of coins produced specifically as diplomatic gifts and royal donatives under Batory's court. Stefan Batory had seized the Polish throne in 1576 as a foreign prince backed by the Transylvanian faction, and lavish gold multiples from the Wilno mint served a calculated political function: projecting legitimacy and wealth to foreign courts that remained skeptical of his claim.
Kopicki 3388 is among the rarest citations in the series. Survivors are almost exclusively found in cabinet collections traceable to 18th-century Polish or Prussian aristocratic hoards.
