Dwutalar toruński - Władysław IV Waza Toruń mint

The dwutalar — a double thaler struck for prestige rather than everyday exchange — was produced at Toruń during a period when Władysław IV was actively cultivating an image of royal magnificence to shore up his position against a fractious Sejm. The Toruń mint had long been one of the Commonwealth's most technically capable facilities, its work reflecting the city's Hanseatic commercial traditions and access to skilled die-cutters from the German tradition.

Pieces of this type circulated primarily as diplomatic gifts and settlement instruments in large mercantile transactions. At 58 grams, genuine examples were rarely handled casually, and survivors in any condition above heavily worn are uncommon.
