Additional information

August II died on February 1, 1733, making this one of the final coins struck in his name — the Dresden mint continued production briefly after his death as the interregnum machinery ground to a halt. The succession crisis that followed drew in Saxony, France, Russia, and Austria, igniting the War of the Polish Succession within months. Stanisław Leszczyński, backed by Louis XV, initially won the throne by election before Russian intervention reversed the outcome entirely.

The dwutalar denomination — a double thaler struck for prestige rather than commerce — saw limited production under August II. Kop. 11143 is among the rarer documented varieties of this type.
