Additional information

By 1771, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was in the opening years of the Bar Confederation uprising, a noble revolt that would directly precipitate the First Partition of 1772. Poniatowski's treasury was under severe strain, and the copper dwugrosz issues of this period were produced in quantity to cover fiscal shortfalls — a pattern repeated across his reign as silver coinage drained eastward. The Warsaw mint had only been re-established under his patronage in 1765, replacing decades of monetary disorder left by Saxon rule.
