| Descrizione del dritto | Laureate and crowned bust of King John II Casimir Vasa facing right, wearing elaborately decorated armour with a chain and order of knighthood visible at the chest, the hair rendered in flowing curls falling to the shoulder. The effigy is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of mid-17th-century Polish hammered gold coinage. Struck in 1655, the year Swedish forces under Charles X Gustav swept through the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the opening phase of what Poles would call the Potop — the Deluge — this coin was produced while Jan Kazimierz's grip on his own kingdom was rapidly dissolving. Toruń itself would fall to Swedish occupation within months of this issue.
The Toruń mint was one of the few royal minting operations that continued functioning into the crisis period, making its 1655 output a narrow window. Kop# 1800 is among the better-documented references for this type.
